The Gorbals Ideas Fund is a community-led project established in April 2018, with the aim to create spaces where people feel empowered to shape decisions, influence budgets, and improve lives in the Gorbals.

Our community includes the neighbourhoods of Oatlands, Hutchesontown, Riverside, and Laurieston  - home to around 11,000 people.

We support local people to:

  • Take part in decisions that affect them

  • Access the services they need

  • Get involved in the things they care about

GIF, (Gorbals Ideas Fund) do this through Participatory Budgeting - a process that puts funding decisions directly into the hands of residents.

Since 2018, nearly 4000 people have voted to support 86 local projects, helping distribute more than £189,000 into our community.

We’re guided by our GIF Strategy 2026-2029 and believe that with the right support, everyone can contribute to making the Gorbals a happier, healthier place to live.
