Summer's Successful Ideas

Thank you to everyone who came along to our Summer's Here Voting Event on Saturday 29 June at The Barn, it was a great day despite the weather.

We had over 200 people attend to hear from the 18 applicants looking to secure votes for their ideas. There were so many great ideas, every single one would have made a difference to the Gorbals, unfortunately we were only able to fund 6 ideas. The successful ideas were:

  • Gorbals Men's Shed who will build picnic benches and planters to spruce up Cleland Lane and make it a nice social area for the whole community to enjoy.

  • TASK Childcare Services who worked with a group of children to come up with their idea - to build a Creative Space that will give families the chance to play and learn together;

  • SEAL who will run 2 Women's Fitness Programmes, complete with Creche, to help local women better connect to the community whilst improving their fitness and making new friends;

  • The Gorbalites who hope to improve health and wellbeing and attract new members with their new Sing for Gorbals workshops;

  • Bookbug will host a Summer Get Together for local children and families, helping them connect to the outdoor spaces the Gorbals has to offer whilst having fun; and

  • St Francis Primary School who will improve their Outdoor Learning Space, giving children and their families more opportunities to learn and play together. St Francis also hope to open up these experiences to the whole community.

We're excited to see how these ideas develop and we'll keep you updated on just how your vote makes a difference to the Gorbals community!
