This Christmas we're launching The Big Idea - a new process that gives the whole community a chance to decide how £10,000 will be used to overcome a barrier or challenge that makes it difficult for some people to get involved in community life.
The first part of the process is a community vote where everyone aged 8 and over and who lives in the Gorbals helps decide which barrier or challenge should be addressed in the new year.
The second part of the process will kick-off in January 2021. We'll invite local people affected by the issue to share their experiences with us and their ideas on how to make things better. We'll also invite local groups, services and individuals who are interested in the issue to work with us as part of this process and together we'll develop solutions and decide how best to use the £10,000 to try to make things better.
There are 12 priority issues to decide from; we know these don't cover ALL of the barriers and challenges that exist in the community but they were the issues identified through our community research.
We also know that picking ONE issue will be a challenge in itself and we discussed this for a long time. In the end we decided that as a small team of mainly volunteers with limited funds it was better to be realistic about what we can achieve. By identifying one issue we'll be able to really focus on making the process work for everyone and provide a reasonable amount of money to fund community solutions.
Voting closes on Saturday 19 December 2020 at 12pm and we'll announce the priority issue with the most votes at 5pm on Twitter and Facebook.
